- Q: Why is the RoofTrac PV
mounting system engineered for 48 rafter attachment centers?
A: This is the span in which all rafters (plywood centers) can be located
and secured to. Increasing this span also increases point load to the
attachment rafter. Increasing point load may require special engineering
for the structure. Δ Back to Top
-
- Q: What is rafter point load?
A: The amount of pressure transmitted to the rafters from the download
and upload conditions from the total square footage of the module array.

-
- Q: Is anti-seize lubricant or grease
required for the stainless hardware supplied with the RoofTrac
system?
A: No. Better quality stainless steel does not require anti-seize lubricant.
We have shipped hundreds of thousands of hardware sets without any complaints
or issues. Δ Back to Top

-
- Q: Why did we design our mounting
support rail as an open C channel?
A: First, it allows water and debris to drain out of the channel preventing
any problems associated with freezing water. Second: The C
allows all bolting and hardware to be concealed in the channel for a
much cleaner appearance on the roof. Third: The RoofTrac system
was designed to integrate with the TileTrac® and FastJack®
attachment systems. (see pictures below)

-
- Q: Is anodizing the mounting system
important?
A: Yes. Anodizing serves two functions for PV mounting racks. First,
it properly matches the anodizing on the solar module frame. Second,
anodizing prevents corrosion that may degrade electrical contact (grounding)
of the module support array. Δ Back to Top

-
- Q: Can the standard RoofTrac
mount system be used to make a ground rack?
A: No. The GroundTrac uses a specially extruded proprietary channel
which is deeper and is specially engineered for this application.

-
- Q: How much time does it take to
drill through the RoofTrac support channel?
A: Using the recommended UniBit #10 drill, a perfect 1/2
hole can be made in under 3 seconds.

- Q: Why is the expansion rate for
aluminum so important?
A: Recognizing the expansion properties of aluminum will prevent roof
leaks or damage to the modules. Please see splice kit section on aluminum
expansion rates. Δ Back to Top
